The shooting of Withered Pomegranates, the second feature film by Moein Rahmanzadeh, was successfully completed in March 2025. Produced and directed by Rahmanzadeh under the banner of Pyramoon Studio, this independent project stands out as one of the most distinctive productions in recent years of Iranian cinema.
The Creative Team
The cinematography was led by Shahab Malekpoor, whose unique visual approach gave the film a poetic yet intense atmosphere. Sound recording was handled by Poorya Afra, whose collaboration with Malekpoor and Rahmanzadeh helped create a minimalist, yet deeply cinematic experience. Their synergy contributed to shaping the film’s raw and authentic aesthetic.
Cast
The film features a talented young cast, including Behrad Selahvarzi, Zeynab Shabanian, Ehsan Gharedaghi, and Nafas Khameneh. Together, they bring a refreshing dynamic to the story, promising powerful performances in an ambitious, independent feature.
Location and Production Timeline
The entire production was shot in Tehran and completed in just six days. This is a remarkable achievement, as most feature-length films typically require anywhere from three to seven weeks of shooting. Even more striking, the final cut of Withered Pomegranates is expected to run for more than two hours, making the accomplishment all the more impressive. The efficient workflow reflects the team’s precise planning, discipline, and commitment to the project’s artistic vision.
Has Withered Pomegranates Set a Record?
Given the unusually short production timeline, Withered Pomegranates may well be among the fastest-produced feature films in Iranian cinema—and possibly beyond. Shooting a two-hour film in under a week is extremely rare, underlining the project’s uniqueness in today’s independent filmmaking landscape.
Currently, the film is in post-production and is expected to be ready for international festival screenings in the coming months.
